Final Project

Project Proposal

For my final project, I will be doing a photo series depicting hands. Hands are a way we express ourselves. Hands display emotion or the context of a scene through simple gestures alone. Many people also talk with their hands, often moving them as they talk whether we realize it or not. The goal of my project is to capture the various emotions our hands can display.

I intend to do close ups of hands but the composition may vary photograph to photograph. For the lighting, I have high contrast in mind. I would prefer natural light but artificial light would work as well. As for Aperture, I intend to have a shallow depth of field in most of the works. The works will be in black and white and have a moody feel to them.

Artist Statement:

For this series I captured the emotions that we express through our hands. Our hands can be just as expressive as our eyes or words. Most of us talk with our hands as well.

Proper methods allowed me to fittingly display the emotions we experience in our daily lives. Not only do our hands express the emotions we feel, we use them for a lot. I captured some seemingly mundane moments featuring hands. Photos of simple tasks such as cooking, or moments at the dinner table with family or relaxing with pets. They may seem mundane at first, but the simple beauty shines through. In the works, you can see the relationship between people in how they interact as well as the dynamics.
